Dorset News:

Groundswell 2021

With the increasing interest in regenerative agriculture and the use of livestock in the rotation, the DH & PD SBA thought it was a good idea to take a stand at Groundswell 2021, near Hitchin Hertforsdshire, at the end of June.

With the help of Sian, Rowland and the boys at Innovis, the Welsh club stand was delivered down to the show ready for assembling. After a bit of head scratching, the stand finally came together and with sheep from both Jeremy Durrant and myself, it certainly looked the part.

The show was a great opportunity to promote the Dorset attributes and as its very much a learning show; people were keen to listen and learn with a great number passing through the stand each day.

There was a huge amount of interest both from the UK and abroad. One enquiry has already resulted in Dorset sheep being purchased from the Worcester Society sale as well as privately. Several businesses with farm shops were also very keen to exploit new season lamb all year round. A company from China were also fascinated to hear about them. They are currently looking to increase their sheep flock size and potentially looking to import both embryos and semen.

After a very busy 2 days and reflecting on the show, I can say that it was well worth the effort. By doing events like this, it opens the opportunity for large commercial farms new into sheep to really evaluate what they are looking for and the Dorsets versatility certainly plays a big part.

A big thank you needs to go out to Jeremy Durrant, Sian Downes, Rob Harvey and Lance Charity for their time and effort in helping out with the stand. Events like these can only be done with the help of volunteers, its much appreciated.
