DORSETS TOP AT 500gns AT WORCESTER

The Dorset Horn & Poll Dorset Society’s Show & Sale at Worcester enjoyed a sound if selective trade with female demand the feature of the sale although topping the price stakes was a Shearling Ram from Tom Clarke’s Devon based “Manor Croft” flock that took Second prize in the pre-sale Show and levelled at 500gns to J Potter, Faringdon, Oxon. Another “Manor Croft” Shearling Ram that won First and Reserve Champion peaked at 400gns to C. Whiting, Sodbury Common, Bristol.

Topping the female section was the First and Champion Shearling Ewe from R & R Hole’s “Sherborne” flock selling to 460gns also to C Whiting, Bristol. The same vendors recording 270gns for the third prize Shearling Ewe to R Smith, Purton, Wiltshire.

The “Byeways” prefix of Joe Larder Somerset was very much to the fore selling to 340gns for a ewe lamb to D & L Billany, Llanon, Ceredigion, the same purchasers taking three other “Byeways” ewe lambs at 300gns twice and 250gns respectively.

David Rossiter’s “Huish” flock enjoyed a brisk following for his shearling ewes up to 330gns from J. Potter, Faringdon, Oxon, 320gns to C whiting, Bristol and 300gns to A Egan, Blandford, Dorset.
