POLL DORSET HITS 1000gns AT WORCESTER
The Dorset Horn and Poll Dorset Sheep Society’s Annual Show & Sale at Worcester again recorded a bumper entry and a strong following of both pedigree and commercial buyers.
Topping the bill in the price stakes at 1000gns was Richhill Archie a shearling ram from David Lewis, Narberth, Pembs. The ram took third prize in the preceding show but, had formerly been Breed Champion at the Royal Welsh and Royal Three Counties Shows in 2018, he was secured by J Potter, Farringdon, Oxon.
Rams in general were a selective trade but other shearlings sold to 400gns for the second prize winner from W.L.French, Launceston, Cornwall to G Riby, Bridlington, Yorkshire.
Ram lambs with prizes were closely followed with the second prize winner Buckenhill Banjo from Louise Crowther, Herefordshire selling for 400gns to P Holdsworth, Stratford upon Avon, Warks and the third prize winner Huish B16325 from David Rossiter, Devon also at 400gns to R Huxter, Crediton, Devon.
Females sold briskly to a realistic trade topping at 600gns for a shearling ewe Pembroke A132 from David Lewis, Narberth, and taken by PA Hancox, Kidderminster, Worcs. The same vendor also selling shearling ewes at 320gns and 300gns to A Baker, Llanidloes, Powys.
Sheep from David Rossiter’s Huish flock were also in demand peaking at 350gns for another shearling ewe to S. E. Smith, Chesterfield, Derby. Joe Larder’s Byeways prize winning flock secured a bid of 300gns for a shearling ewe out of a Ballytaggart dam to PA Hancox, Kidderminster, Worcs.
Another price of 300gns was recorded by W.L. French’s Wilsey consignment to G Riby, Bridlington, Yorkshire.
Ewe lambs sold to a top of 250gns from Joe Larder for his second prize winner knocked down to C Whiting, Bristol.
