Stirling Sale Report 2020

Wednesday, 22nd July saw the second annual Scottish Dorset Breeders’ Club sale at United Auctions, Stirling. What can only be described as an unusual sale held in these unprecedented times, it was not possible to hold the pre-sale show and award prizes or crown a champion, strict social distancing was enforced with no viewing backstage. Instead the sheep were paraded through the ring immediately prior to start of the sale, which allowed potential purchasers the opportunity to both see and have a quick feel of the quality lots on offer.

Let us Generate Opportunity from Crisis

‘Mr Watson – come here – I want to see you’, were the famous first words uttered by Alexander Graham Bell to his assistant when he invented the telephone in 1875. By the 1930’s the household telephone was commonplace in affluent homes and only 20 years later it had become a standard household item.

Where would we have been without the telephone over the last 70 years? I am sure we all regularly pick up the phone to loved ones, fellow Dorset breeders and (of course) Marg Cowley our famous Breed Secretary when struggling with the Grassroots system! Over the last 70 years hundreds, if not thousands, of Dorset ewes and rams will have been traded over the phone.

Stirling Show & Sale 2019

The first dedicated sale of Dorset Sheep on Scottish soil was held at United Auctions, Stirling, on behalf of the Scottish Dorset Breeders’ Club on Wednesday 3rd July 2019.

The sale attracted vendors from both Northern Ireland and England as well as Scotland. 66 sheep in total were brought forward for sale, 19 male and 47 female.

The pre-sale show was kindly judged by Mr Sam Driver of the Sandy Lane flock who are current flock champions.
